Full Property Design for Capital Region Homes
Landscape design is more than picking plants. It's a survey of the property, a grading plan, a circulation plan (how people move through the space), a hardscape footprint, an irrigation plan, a lighting plan, and a planting plan that accounts for sun exposure, soil drainage, and Upstate New York's hardiness zone. We deliver all of it.
Most Capital Region homes have one or two design problems sitting in the way of a great backyard: a slope that's been graded wrong, a low spot that floods, a property line that wants screening, or a sun pattern that the existing patio doesn't take advantage of. The first thing we do is fix the design before we touch a shovel.
What's Included
Site survey + concept design
We walk the property with you, document sun exposure, drainage, existing utilities, and the views you want to keep or screen. We produce a concept drawing showing the proposed layout — hardscape footprint, plant beds, lawn shapes, and circulation.
Grading + drainage plan
This is the part most landscape companies skip. A backyard that drains toward the foundation is a basement leak waiting to happen. We re-grade where needed, install French drains or catch basins where the water needs to go, and ensure every hardscape surface pitches away from the house at the proper 1/4-inch-per-foot.
Hardscape integration
Patios, walkways, retaining walls, and pool decks are designed as part of the landscape, not separate from it. The hardscape footprint defines where lawn ends and beds begin, where lighting goes, and how the space flows from one zone to the next.
Plant selection & seasonal interest
We select plants that thrive in USDA zones 5a–5b (the Capital Region's range), with attention to four-season interest — flowering shrubs in spring, perennials and grasses in summer, fall color, and evergreen structure for winter.
Lighting plan
Path lights, accent lights on key trees and architectural features, downlights on patios. Low-voltage LED with timers and zoning.
Pricing & Timeline
Most full-property landscape design projects in the Capital Region run $25,000–$80,000+ depending on scope, hardscape footprint, and plant complexity. Smaller refresh projects (one zone, new bed lines, a few new plantings) start around $5,000.
Typical timeline from signed contract to finished installation: 4–10 weeks depending on permitting needs, project size, and seasonal scheduling. Spring and early summer book out fastest — we recommend starting the design conversation 8–12 weeks before you want construction to begin.
Owner-led, no high-pressure pitch, no design fee on contracted projects. Let's walk the property.
